Factors to Consider When Buying Reading Glasses

Are you worried about your vision? Is it difficult for you see things clearly? Don't worry. You are not alone. There are many people, who at some point in life experience that ominous feeling in their stomach when they can't properly read the print of the morning newspaper. And this can escalate quickly into haziness when reading the tiny print on the new bottle of aspirin.

If you are suffering from such vision problems, what you need immediately is a pair of reading glasses. These are lightweight with thin lenses and come in various shapes and colors.

A lot of people avoid wearing glasses because they feel the presence of glasses will spoil their looks. They fail to understand that having trouble reading is almost a sort of personal insult that indicates the onset of old age and all the paraphernalia that comes with it.

Ignorance is Not Bliss

The fact that ignoring the eye problem can aggravate it to become worse becomes tertiary in the face of having a pair of glasses resting on your nose. Some paranoid individuals even go to the extent of sharing reading frames with their partners so that they can at least claim to NOT own them!

However, with constant improvements in style and technology, glasses are no longer shabby looking objects that add five years to your age. They come in various colors and styles. You can choose the appropriate frames and lenses for your use.

The Choices Available

Some people also buy more than one of these pairs so that they can mix and match with their outfits on different occasions. You can keep a pair of formal reading glasses reserved for office work. Keep another classic pair for home reading and a wacky pair for going out to dinner at the local pizza place. You can afford to purchase more than one pair of these glasses since they are quite reasonably priced.

Deciding on the Price

However, don't compromise too much on the price by buying a pair off the streets. Go to a proper eye care shop and try out various pairs to understand which one gives you the best clarity. Once you know your power, you can choose the style and color of the lenses and frames.

Taking Care of Your Glasses

Maintaining these reading glasses is very important. Because they are for temporary wear purposes they should be carried along with their case.

Other helpful tips include the following:

• While placing your glasses inside one of these cases, make sure that the lens is facing the cushioned side to prevent it from scratching.

• Clean the lens with proper lens cleaner found in the eye care shop itself.

• Don't rub the surface of the glass with any cloth or material. Use the one provided with the case when you buy it.

Near Point Stress - Related to Your Focusing - Find Out How You Can Improve Your Vision

When a person has stopped growing, and their eyes are progressively getting worse, it is probable because what is called "near point stress". At risk: office workers who work on their computers all day long, also students researching and chatting with friends on line. And, Facebook Users, who sit for hours and write back and forth. What about avid television/movie watchers. When you wear corrective lenses, contacts or glasses, then the muscles of your eye can only be can only be resting when you are looking at an object a minimum of about 20 feet away. So how often does an office worker, a Facebook user, a student actually look away from the screen or TV? Not too often, we know that. If you focus on anything, like a monitor, television screen, book at less than twenty feet, then your eyes will actually have to accommodate to do that - that is they have to actually change the muscles to focus at less than that 20 feet.

So, when you work or study, you spend hours with your eyes pulled into one position. Just imagine yourself taking your fist and clenching it, and keeping it clenched for hours and hours at a time. Maybe even doing that all day/ or all evening long. Then, try and open that clenched fist. It doesn't work that easy, you fingers will be stiff and non responsive. The same happens with your eyes. After hours of near focus, they will not be able to relax and work properly at distant focusing. And then after months, weeks of this kind of near focusing you will receive a new prescription change. And then when you hit your forties, your muscles will likely break down more and you will need bifocals.

Because of this, always choose to get the weakest prescription glasses possible. The stronger prescription glasses that you have, the harder your eyes will have to work when you are doing your near sighted work. In fact, it might be a good idea to wear a weaker pair of glasses while doing "near" work. This is kind of like making a loose fist, instead of that tight fist we talked about. This will make it much easier to change to distant "looking", and therefore not worsening your eyes. If you wear contacts, consider changing them to reading glasses for certain occasion.

And, there is one more important thing you can do to help yourself. Every ten minutes, take a break and just look down the street through a window, or at a far away object for a few seconds, or look at something across the room, or down the hall, or wherever you can look away to that is a fair distance away, like about 20 feet or even more.

Taking Care of Your Contact Lens

Are you wearing contact lenses? If you are, then you need to take good care of them, in order to enjoy healthy eyes for a long time.

It's imperative that when you take the lenses off your eyes, you must clean them and put them safely in their respective cases. Today, the market is flooded with contact lens cleaning kits, and not all are expensive. You may try a few before you know which brand works the best for you and your eyes. You would be smart to invest in a kit like Bausch and Lomb Renu. This comes with a protein remover, so you will be saved the hassle of additional cleansing steps before you pack away your lenses for the night.

Most people like to use a contact lens cleanser that's available in a bottle. You can safely and effectively clean your contacts without much hassle. Some users have to travel frequently, and if you are one of them, you will realize how convenient it is to use a contact lens cleanser.

There are variety of contact lens cleaning solutions available at the local drugstore or on the Internet. You can search the web for discounted prices as well. However, it is best to buy such stuff from a dealer whom you can trust.

Here are a few rules about putting on contact lenses for a better, more comfortable and healthier fit:

Your hands have to be dry, and squeaky clean whenever you are about to touch your contact lenses. It is not a good idea to use moisturizing soaps or scented cosmetics before using your contacts. Apply some hand cream or body lotion only after you are done putting on your lenses. If you keep your lenses clean, they will last you a long period of time. New users of contact lens should ideally keep their finger nails trimmed and clipped so they don't have to be extra wary of sharp edges.

For soft contact lenses, open your eyes wide before removing them. If there is a tendency to close your eyes before you have touched the lenses, you can use a thumb and a finger to hold your eyes open. Look to the side or at the ceiling, and gently pinch the contact lenses out of your eye. Sometimes, after a long day, your eyes might feel dry. When that happens, use a few drops of re-wetting liquid. Try putting on your lenses again in a few minutes. When you have to remove the lens from the other eye, switch your hands.

Some people find it easier to work with hard lens. Cup your palm and put it underneath your eye and pull the end of your eye. Soon you will see that the lens has fallen on your waiting palm.

Make sure your contacts cases are labeled for each eye. Clean them daily and change the stored disinfectant in the case. There you go, if you keep these things in mind, you should have no problem with your eyes or with putting on contact lenses and maintaining them.
